Can someone help out with a text effect tutorial? photoshop help..?

He uses the alpha to selection and other things to apply a gradient. Instead of using the rainbow gradient you can use the foreground to transparent or foreground to whatever color you want. Another way of doing that is to do the alpha to selection and apply a gradient of fore to background and blend the image the way this guy does it a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6fItA5iP-o" rel="nofollow"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6fItA5iP…/a . the interface is different but I believe the technique should be the same. i will see is I can duplicate this in gimp with the PS tutorial.
