What is a good bottle of scotch whisky?

I want to get my Dad a good bottle of scotch for Christmas. I want to spend between $80-$120. A local wine and liquor emporium suggested a Macallan 12 or 15 year old. I have never heard of the brand. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? My dad drinks Jack-and-Cokes, Lynchburgh Lemonades, stuff like that. Whiskey mixed drinks. I want to get him a nice bottle of scotch he does not have to mix. Thanks all. Merry Christmas.
