Was this a stupid thing to say to my boyfriend??? help?

well I'm always worried about saying something stupid, so I'm not sure whether this was stupid or if I'm just overreacting. Anyway, last night I was on the phone with my boyfriend and he asked me what I was thinking about (at the moment that he asked me I was thinking about how much I love him) and I said "Um...stuff." And he said "Ok well what kind of stuff." And he wouldn't stop pestering me about it so I told him "I was just thinking about how much I love you." There was an awkward silence and I regretted saying it. But I felt a little better after he started telling me how much he loved me too. But...should I not have told him that? Am I just being paranoid?
